Baseus iPhone Battery Review

This one some of you might hear the name before.
Baseus - one of the famous brands in accessories of iPhone.

Baseus iPhone 7 battery 

Packing is nice. Installation manual and tools provided.
The size of the battery is totally the same as the original. It makes me wonder again. 

As usual, I'll use PC app to read it.
This battery really shows the extra capacity.
Unlike the "previous battery review which no show extra capacity than the original.

To be fair, I conducted the test with few rules.

How we test the iPhone battery?

1. Restore the iPhone and latest iOS 12.1.2. No any third party app installed. Clean. 
2. Of course, the iPhone must be in very good condition. No issue and fully original parts. No repair before.
3. Empty the power and charged back 3 times. 3 charged cycled before we test. 
4. Same room temperature
5. No SIM and NO WIFI connected
6. Running offline benchmark app and offline videos to see how long it depleted the battery.
7. Final step, when the phone power is drained empty. We monitor the USB adapter voltage check to see how many mAH this battery absorbed from the charger until 100% full.

Final Step - Charge Speed and Max capacity

We can know how fast it's charging and how much total mAh it holds when it stops charging.

The actual max capacity is important. What's the point of high capacity battery if it's lower mAh than the original max capacity?

At the same time, I'm typing this, another brand of high capacity battery company contacted me. They are willing to give me some of their products to compare.

So I might write more other brands review in the future.

17th Jan 2019 - 1st day
The battery is really better. Noticeable for about 15%.


20th Jan 2019 - 3rd day
The battery now should be in the best condition. But it's decreasing fast like the other so-called high capacity battery.
Now the whole performance it just lasts about 10%% longer time usage.

I need to extend the test a week more because the original battery doesn't decrease the max capacity so fast.

Decreasing it's capacity so fast. 84 mAH is gone.
From 2232 dropped to 2148 in 3 days. Charged 4 times.

One charged cycle should just minus around 1 mAh. Honestly saying that I'm not surprised or disappointed.
But still thanks to our battery sponsor.

26th Jan 2019 - A week after

The battery is good but the actual capacity dropped more again. This means the original battery decreases the maximum capacity slower than the high capacity battery after each cycle charged.

Test conclusion: 

It really extended the usage of time. But only expect for 10%. But the 10% extra would just last for 3 months and then it would be the same performance as the original.

If you keep changing the high capacity battery every 3 months, the performance is good.

Should we use the third party high capacity battery on the iPhone?

Yes if the price is cheaper than original.
Because it's strong in the first few months but weaker than the original after 6 months. 

Again saying, Apple is not stupid.

iPhone High Capacity Battery, Last 20% longer - Review

Countless times I told the customer there is no such high capacity battery. But until today...
I couldn't resist to test it.

A customer came in and ask for replacing an iPhone 6 Battery. He replaced the battery before in another shop not long ago. It's a so-called higher capacity.

As you can see, it said 2100 mAH.
 iPhone 6 Original battery design capacity is 1810 mAH.

But he thinks it's still the battery problem because it's still draining too fast.
He needs to charge twice a day.

For customers who just replaced the iPhone battery not long ago and but it's still draining fast, we will suspect it might be a motherboard problem.
One of the components in the motherboard is damaged and keeps leaking power.

or the battery is faulty.

iPhone drain fast - Battery problem or motherboard problem?

So as usual, we test the motherboard power consumption by plugging into DC Power Supply.
Found out, it's a motherboard problem. It's drawing a lot of power when it's idling.

Then we scan the motherboard with the thermal camera and found out the Charging IC is the problem.

The video above, you will see a square is blinking. That's the charging ic of the iPhone 6.

It's blinking because it draws a lot of power than all other components. It won't act like that unless it's damaged.
Any iPhone charging ic will be damaged if you used a third-party charger that is overvoltage.

But I'm not going to talk about how we repaired the motherboard of charging ic, because I'm off the topic too far now.
Sorry, so let's continue to the high capacity battery...

So after repaired it, the customer asked is the board still has problem? Because he is not feeling any extra juice from the battery. So we check his battery and let him know why.

The real way to find out the battery condition is NOT in iOS health.

One of proper ways is we read it from a PC program! 

A program for Windows PC to read the iPhone battery capacity

Some free programs are designed for the iPhone to transfer photos, backup data, set ringtone and songs without using stupid iTunes. It comes with a function to read your battery condition with a lot of details. You can even valid some parts are original in your iPhone or not.

One of the functions is the battery reading.

We found out his battery only has 1781 mAH after the 139 charged cycle.
If it's high capacity which is 2100mAh, it would still maintain high capacity after 139 times of charged cycle.

This photo is our original battery which tested in the same way. It's 150 charged cycle and it still has 1802mAh. 
You see, the actual capacity still maintains high in original max capacity performance.

So why I think the high capacity battery is a scam?

Because I believe Apple is really provided the best battery for its own product. They already maxed out the capacity and the space that allow the battery to fit in.

Apple product is not cheap, you know?

My conclusion...

Most of the high capacity batteries are a scam...

We really need to read the max capacity and see how fast it degrade after charged.
The quality is NOT only the maximum capacity, but it's also about durable

Let's try another branded high capacity iPhone battery.


Update: Some guys are selling this brand of battery complained, some of them even saying I fake the review.
So I add more photos and another original battery reading which conducted the same test and charged cycled.

iPhone SE water damaged can't on repair

Repair water damaged iPhone is possible. Don't listen to those people tell you it cannot be repaired and need to replace the motherboard. You just haven't found the right person.

Japan iPhone camera shutter sound fix

Do you know that Japan and Korea iPhones are unable to silent camera shutter sound?

In old iOS, It even makes a shutter noise when you take a screenshot with Silent turn ON...
It's very annoying.

It's been two years until now that I have fixed a lot of iPhone Camera shutter sound that can't mute when the silent switch is turn on.

As a founder of this solution, here I reveal the secret of how to do it without jailbreaking.


I already fixed more than hundreds of Japan's iPhone of camera shutter sound issue, until now there are still a few used/recond iPhone suppliers in Malaysia sending this kind of iPhones to our workshop to fix.

None of them return with a problem because it's a harmless original factory patch.

Why I can't silent the iPhone camera shutter sound?

Actually, it doesn't consider is a problem. Apple just wants to prevent the iPhone from being used to sneak peeking especially in Japan. Maybe it's Japan's government policy.

What's the difference between Japan's iPhone and foreign iPhone?

We are a motherboard iPhone technician. We knew there is no difference on the motherboard. All the components inside are the same.

So we know it is the software that causing the camera shutter noise.

But the software (iOS firmware) that we downloaded is the same file, so there is no difference in the firmware too.

So the last thing I suspected is the "Model Code" also known as Area Code that in "Setting - General - About".

This is the ONE to tell the iOS to act differently in Camera Mode.

But this code is unable to change for consumers. Only Apple technicians have tools to reprogram it. But of course, the Apple Service Centre won't do for you. So you want to look for a third-party Apple Repair like us.

As you can see, Model code MG4C2J/A.
J/A means this is Japan's iPhone.
KH is Korea.
  

Both Japan and Korea will make the camera shutter noise when the iPhone is in the "Silent Mode". It still makes a loud shutter after setting the speaker volume to lowest.

And the shutter noise is louder compared to the usual iPhone.  🤣

So what is the best solution to enable silent camera shutter sound like a normal iPhone?

Yes, the best solution is we do a factory setting patch.
By just changing the country code is enough. But to do this is required to have NAND programming tools. (Hard disk programmer)

iPhone X or older, they all can be patch without dissembling any hardware.

But if iPhone XS or newer, it needs to take out the NAND which is involving micro-soldering.

This is NOT a jailbreak solution. Jailbreak has too many side-affect. You can't even update or erase the device if you jailbreak your iPhone.
Jailbreak is NOT recommended.

New method v2: iPhone camera shutter sound fix (2020)

Old method v1: Procedure to fix Japan's iPhone camera shutter sound (2017)

Step 1 - Take out the Memory chip which we called NAND.

The red box one is the NAND. Every iPhone must have one. We can upgrade it too, by replacing a bigger capacity NAND.
So the first step is to unsolder this NAND out. 

"So far until now - 2018, Apple didn't make their own NAND. They use the NAND from Toshiba, Hynix, Sandisk, and Samsung. This is why we have the tools to reprogram it."

Step 2 - After unsoldered the NAND out and we put it into a NAND programming tool. 

This is one of the NAND programming tools by the company name WL.

Open the program and read the original NAND data. There will be a lot of code. Serial Number, WiFi Address, and more.
There is one called region code.

Step 3 - Change the region code

See J/A?  Just change this to the country we want.

I reprogrammed it to MY/A (Malaysia). 

 

Step 4 - Solder the NAND back to the motherboard. The last step is to restore the software again and then we are done.
