Do you know that Japan and Korea iPhones are unable to silent camera shutter sound?

In old iOS, It even makes a shutter noise when you take a screenshot with Silent turn ON...
It's very annoying.

It's been two years until now that I have fixed a lot of iPhone Camera shutter sound that can't mute when the silent switch is turn on.

As a founder of this solution, here I reveal the secret of how to do it without jailbreaking.


I already fixed more than hundreds of Japan's iPhone of camera shutter sound issue, until now there are still a few used/recond iPhone suppliers in Malaysia sending this kind of iPhones to our workshop to fix.

None of them return with a problem because it's a harmless original factory patch.

Why I can't silent the iPhone camera shutter sound?

Actually, it doesn't consider is a problem. Apple just wants to prevent the iPhone from being used to sneak peeking especially in Japan. Maybe it's Japan's government policy.

What's the difference between Japan's iPhone and foreign iPhone?

We are a motherboard iPhone technician. We knew there is no difference on the motherboard. All the components inside are the same.

So we know it is the software that causing the camera shutter noise.

But the software (iOS firmware) that we downloaded is the same file, so there is no difference in the firmware too.

So the last thing I suspected is the "Model Code" also known as Area Code that in "Setting - General - About".

This is the ONE to tell the iOS to act differently in Camera Mode.

But this code is unable to change for consumers. Only Apple technicians have tools to reprogram it. But of course, the Apple Service Centre won't do for you. So you want to look for a third-party Apple Repair like us.

As you can see, Model code MG4C2J/A.
J/A means this is Japan's iPhone.
KH is Korea.
  

Both Japan and Korea will make the camera shutter noise when the iPhone is in the "Silent Mode". It still makes a loud shutter after setting the speaker volume to lowest.

And the shutter noise is louder compared to the usual iPhone.  🤣

So what is the best solution to enable silent camera shutter sound like a normal iPhone?

Yes, the best solution is we do a factory setting patch.
By just changing the country code is enough. But to do this is required to have NAND programming tools. (Hard disk programmer)

iPhone X or older, they all can be patch without dissembling any hardware.

But if iPhone XS or newer, it needs to take out the NAND which is involving micro-soldering.

This is NOT a jailbreak solution. Jailbreak has too many side-affect. You can't even update or erase the device if you jailbreak your iPhone.
Jailbreak is NOT recommended.

New method v2: iPhone camera shutter sound fix (2020)

Old method v1: Procedure to fix Japan's iPhone camera shutter sound (2017)

Step 1 - Take out the Memory chip which we called NAND.

The red box one is the NAND. Every iPhone must have one. We can upgrade it too, by replacing a bigger capacity NAND.
So the first step is to unsolder this NAND out. 

"So far until now - 2018, Apple didn't make their own NAND. They use the NAND from Toshiba, Hynix, Sandisk, and Samsung. This is why we have the tools to reprogram it."

Step 2 - After unsoldered the NAND out and we put it into a NAND programming tool. 

This is one of the NAND programming tools by the company name WL.

Open the program and read the original NAND data. There will be a lot of code. Serial Number, WiFi Address, and more.
There is one called region code.

Step 3 - Change the region code

See J/A?  Just change this to the country we want.

I reprogrammed it to MY/A (Malaysia). 

 

Step 4 - Solder the NAND back to the motherboard. The last step is to restore the software again and then we are done.

iPhone Battery Fast Drain Motherboard Problem | Power Run out fast

iPhone motherboard fast drain out battery problem?

• iPhone is leaking battery power quickly
• Consume or draining the battery fast even not using
• Replace a new battery but still draining fast
• Restored the firmware and still the same

If you have an iPhone that having drain or consumed battery power fast. The first thing we suspect is the battery, but what if the problem still exists after you replaced a new battery?

A lot of shops claim they know how to repair motherboard, they really don't do well. Most of them send to another shop to do or they just blindly change whatever IC that is related to power, after they messed a lot of things, then they return it with the same problem plus wasted few weeks of time.

Today I'm going to teach you the SOP of checking the iPhone logic board drain problem. (SOP = Standard of the procedure)

How to check the iPhone logic board drain battery problem

1st diagnosis

Unplug everything, including the battery, LCD, and all flex that connected to the motherboard. Except for the power button flex which we need it later. (We still can click the power button without the flex, but not saying that in this tutorial)

The next step is to connect it to the Power Supply.
The power supply can read how much your iPhone is drawing the power.
Technically, it's called checking the "Current respond"

Set the Power Supply's current reading to 1A or lower.

We must turn the knob slowly. Slowly giving the power voltage into the iPhone.
By watching the meter of Amperage we can know the iPhone motherboard is draining the power before we power it on. 

Slowly raising the voltage until the battery level about 3.7v.

It should be staying in ZERO and NOT drawing any power before we switch the iPhone ON. 
This means the current reading is at 0A.

My power supply's left gauge is Amperage meter. We look at the lower line because I already locked it into 1A.
In this case, the red needle stoped at 0.02A (20mA).
This means the iPhone is leaking 20ma before we power it on.

This is an iPhone 5S that having a battery drain quick problem. Even if we switch the iPhone off, it will still drain out the battery power.

Can it be fixed?
Yes, but it's not in today's topic.

What if the scenario above is not happening? 
Yes, If so then go to the next step below.

If you sure the above is normal then we do the second step of the diagnosis - BOOT-UP TEST.

2nd Diagnosis: Boot-Up Test

What is boot-up test?

Boot-up-test is when we click the power button once and without holding it to turn on.
At that moment, the iPhone motherboard will do a self-loading test. 

This is very useful to the technician that wants to read the current response from the motherboard.

How to do the Boot-up test:

Connect the iPhone motherboard with the DC Power Supply.
Hit the Power Button once. Just click it once lightly. Do not hold the button to power on. We don't want it to be fully power on.

When we just lightly click once on the power button, a normal iPhone would load from 0 into 80mA and then drop back into 0.

If the iPhone has a charging IC problem, it can be easily detected by this method too. 

This is a digital power supply. The function is the same. But it can be more accurate compared to Analog Meter Power Supply. More advanced diagnosis methods will need it.

As you can see in the photo above, this iPhone booting-test is loading 218mA. It's very high compared to the normal iPhone. A normal iPhone is only loading 80mA in the boot-up test.
This indicates this iPhone logic board has a faulty circuit that drawing a lot of power. Confirmed it's a motherboard problem, so then we can scan it with a thermal camera to see which part getting hotter than usual. 

The below video is the thermal camera that we use to scan the motherboard problem.

Maximum of iPhone comsumption is 1A.  (1A= 1000mA)
But iPhone is never constantly loading 1A.

Only If CPU is doing a full speed benchmark test. 

 

So far there is no app that would causing the iPhone CPU running in full speed all the time. Only just a few seconds. 

 

By the way, this is an iPhone 7 that boot-up at 200ma.
This means it's already consuming 200mA when it's turned on.
I'm sure this iPhone 7 at least need to charge 3 times a day.

Can it be fixed?
Yes.
 If we are first hand to repair the motherboard, it will be a quick JOB which can be fixed within a day. 

What if the above two scenarios are not happening?

Then the problem is coming from one of the flex, LCD, or camera.
Connect all the flex back except the battery then do the methods above. Eventually, you'll found out it's the external problem which it's not a motherboard issue.
Then you're lucky. Because it's easy money. A Screw-drivers job that no need micro soldering.

We received countless failed repair iPhones from local shops. They messed up a lot of things which they shouldn't touch. They changed things without a proper diagnosis. Obviously, they have no training/educated.

The worst matter to me is their workmanship quality, they usually damaged the board further. In the end, we repaired it at a higher cost and a longer time to fix a simple original problem...

When Audio IC is not working properly.Symptoms:

• Unable to record voice in voice memo (No audio devices found or freeze)
• Other parties can't hear you when calling
• Very slow boot-up Apple Logo
• Loudspeaker button is grey in calling mode
• Video record got problem
• You still have ringtone and sounds

We made a video and how to repair this issue. 

Why it happened?

Because you drop it too hard or bend it. One of the audio IC solder joints is broken.
Not entirely your fault. It's the design issue and they didn't expect it. Don't worry, it can be fixed permanently by a professional micro-soldering technician.

Advice:

DO NOT send to normal shop repair this issue. The audio ic is located behind the Baseband and CPU. You don't want they brick your iPhone.

So many cases that I repaired their failed attempted job. They "accidentally" overheated the components around. They either caused the iPhone became No Service (Baseband shorted) or unable to power on (CPU shorted).

Ended up with a higher cost to repair and time wasted.

How do I know they are professional? 

Easy to know if they are able to provide the repair in a few conditions below:

1. Repair on the same day. 1-3 hours between. (Too fast is not good, because they won't bother cleaning, put back the shield and water-resistance seals, blah blah)
2. Warranty period is long (we provide one year warranty)
3. If the device is dead by their hand, they replace the motherboard or repair it fully without need you to pay more.

iPhone 7 / 7 Plus Audio IC repair

This photo is an iPhone 7 Plus. The smaller iPhone 7 also has the same flaw.

Let's take off the IC and look closer with a microscope

99% of audio disease is because of this pad broken. Even it's not missing, we MUST still need to rebuild a new track for it. I saw a lot of technicians didn't rebuild this track and the customer keep coming back with the same problem.

The technical term of this method is called "jumper".

C12 - I2S_AP_TO_CODEC_MCLK
This is a very important line that would cause the malfunction of the audio codec totally.
It controls the microphone and sound codec. You still have ringtone working but no sound when calling.

So this is the fix that must be applied before we put Audio IC back

We still can see the green PCB glue in that area after repair.
If this iPhone suffers another serious fall damage again, it would still be working fine.
The screen should be broken first before this problem reoccurs again.

This solution is a permanent fix method. We'll cover this problem for 1 year if it happens again.

Countless people asking me how much is the motherboard..

"Apple center told me my motherboard is spoiled, it's beyond repair. Need pay them Rm12xx to replace whole device. Ridiculous!"

Before you buy the motherboard.. Please send the device to my shop and i check for you is it can be repairable.

90% of motherboard problem are can be repaired. 

Example: A motherboard is RM 650. Motherboard repair price between RM 200 to RM 400. A second hand of  whole iPhone is RM 750.

We always quote you a fair price that lower than a board replacement... and much hell cheaper than Apple Center offer you device replacement at ridiculous price!!

"By the way, technically it's called Logic Board. Not motherboard. Motherboard is in the PC which you can plug in third party hardware. Logic Board on other hand, you cannot. Plug in their designed hardware only."

So today topic is iPhone 6 that is stuck in Recovery Mode. It failed to restore and show Error 9 in iTunes. Customer been to some shops telling them same story that it can't be repair.

Let me show you how is the professional repair it.... in my shop, of course.

iPhone 6 Stuck at Recovery Mode. Most end user like to say Cable Mode or iTunes Logo Mode

Restore failed. A code appear. it's Error 9. 

No matter how many PC or Mac you use to restore it.. it ended up with same error.

Error 9 is indicated NAND or NAND circuit failure.  NAND is the memory chip. Some people like to say HDD or Hard Disk. But in Apple schematic, they called it NAND.

We notice first bad news is "all the memory data inside" probably gone. Especially customer attempted to restore it and it failed.

Put in our board onto his device to TEST every parts such as  LCD, camera, buttons, battery, ports....
You don't want after we repaired the board and turn on found another problem then paying more.. Right?

Then call customer and quote him a price after we inspect the board damaged under the MICROSCOPE.

That's how professional checking procedure. Not Genius Bar that just telling you the Logicboard is spoiled and you pay whole device price. They don't even know what's wrong is the logicboard and which chipset or what circuit failed. They sure didn't check every parts of the device.
Wasted your time.

Apple trained them nothing in repairing except follow procedure of reading script to tell you what to pay.

I found the NAND is the only issue instead of CPU. So by replace it can solve the problem.

Obviously this iPhone housing and LCD changed at other place before..

We use special tool that can read/write NAND. This tool is not cheap. Cost one thousand above and it just only works for specific models. Not every iPhone.  

Tried to read the old NAND and it failed. So we put in new NAND to reprogram Serial Number, Address...
The iPhone won't be able to activate if we don't do this. Activate process is needed go through Apple Server and they will verify the device Serial Number, Wifi and Bluetooth address.

We also need to purchase the INFO of this device to reprogram it. It might take days to wait from server provide us the report of this iPhone.

I must need to blackmarked all the infomation.. Who knows Apple might saw this and blacklist this iphone from server.. So the user might ended up unable to activate or network blocked. 

Once re-program done. Soldered the NAND back on the logicboard.

Voila~ Done!

Question: After upgraded the storage, can I still update the iOS?
Answer: Yes, it can. From iPhone 5 to iPhone X, so far none have a problem. Apple doesn't check or care the capacity of your device. But their server will check the Serial Number, IMEI to make sure it's their product.

Question: What if my device got a problem later?
Answer: There will be one month warranty for it. But the warranty doesn't cover problem like the LCD screen, buttons or camera.

Question: If you so confident it won't get any problem, then why don't you provide more extended time warranty?
Answer: Because we never know how the user uses their iPhone. Not confident in how they take care of their iPhone. They can even kill the iPhone with the wrong charger also.  That's why we will check all function and inspect the board first so we can eliminate potential problem too.

Question: Do you have a price listed on the web site?
Answer: Yes, It's on this page. By the way, the price is up and down floating according to the market. Just like the computer HDD, their rate is also not fixed. Sometimes go up or down.

Question: How long does it take?
Answer: It's between 2 to 4 hours if appointment made. Otherwise, it would just need one day.

Question: Do I need to backup?
Answer: Yes. We will need to erase/format the iPhone. By the way, we can do the backup for you, but the process might extend another two hours or more. So it's the best you back up into your PC before you come.

Question: Do I need to turn off iCloud or password?
Answer: Yes. After re-format with new memory. Activation will ask for the previous ID if we didn't turn off iCloud before format.

Question: How is it possible? Even Apple doesn't even have this kind of service. They told me it's impossible.
Answer: Yes, it is possible because they don't have a factory to make memory chip or hard disk. They get the hard disk from Toshiba, Sandisk, Hynix, and Samsung...

By the way, those memory chip is called NAND flash.

NAND supplier sure has their own developer tools and software.

We purchased and use their tool that even Apple center inside doesn't have.

That's why we can do what is impossible.
